Lightning McQueen strikes again

Connor's birthday party was last Saturday (and I'm just getting around to posting about it). It was a big hit as far as Connor's concerned. It was really exciting for me this time around because it was the first time he's really anticipated his own party. Remember that? As a kid, I would count down the days until the party. It would seem as though the party day would never arrive. Well, this time it was Connor's turn (and somehow, from my perspective, the party day came much too quickly). About 4 weeks ago, we started talking about all the things that were coming up in his little world: school would let out for Mom and Dad, he would stop going to Becky's house (our babysitter who has to move away...), he would start going to day camp at the Y, he would turn 4, and there would be a PARTY!!! He was all kinds of excited about his big day, and he grinned from ear to ear every time it was mentioned.

As most of you know, Connor is a big fan of all things Lightning McQueen. So much so that his 3rd and 4th birthday parties were Lightning McQueen-themed. Here are a couple photos from the party, including the legendary Lightning McQueen cake (made with love by Mommy). PS--if any of you ever find yourselves in need of a Lightning McQueen-shaped cake pan, look no further. I'll be happy to loan it out.

...but how cool is it that you got to use that pan twice? :) I am impressed with your work. I like to make my kids' cakes, but have never attempted the star-tip creation of a licensed character. I am afraid I would mess it up like I do counted cross-stitch.
I'm glad Connor had a great b-day party...isn't it so fun when they get excited for their birthdays? Eli was looking really forward to his this year and talking about his party was one of his favorite topics. I liked it that it wasn't so much about the presents as the cake and decorations. This is also why we ended up having a "favorite things" party for him...he couldn't decide on one character or theme! :) However, I have recently revamped his room a bit and realized we're going with a Lightning McQueen/Route 66 theme. (It just involved having a dresser instead of a changing table and putting his race track and Bob's old "Road Rally" matchbox case on top of it and ordering a Route 66 tin sign...yeah, my own version of Design on a Dime!). Maybe Connor can come check it out soon...Eli would love to play cars with him!
Again, Happy Birthday!!!

Actually, I didn't so much get to use the pan twice. Last year I said to myself, "Self, I'm not gonna spend $12 on a cake pan that I'll never use again." (See the irony?) So I got a McQueen cake from the bakery. Well, i took a lot of heat from the older sister for copping out and buying the cake. So this year, I had to bite the bullet and buy the cake pan (and mix and decorating tools/supplies..).

PS--It also helps if there's a certain baby sister around to take care of "messing up" the cake, too. Yep, Riley got hold of it before we did candles and sang. I was able to doctor it up some, but it wasn't the same.

Lookin' good, Kim! The boys had a Cars birthday last year (for 5 & 2). Except Adam requested a sheet cake with a toy Lightning running on a chocolate race track with a green grassy infield. And, of course, Mommy HAD to make it. The most I can say is....isn't that red the most awful color to attempt to create?! Too little and Lightning's pink. Too much and they're teeth are red for a week! I think your Lightning is awesome, baby sister or not! :)
