Confessions of Work-Outside-of-the-Home-Mad-Woman--I mean, Mom.

  • I hate hurricane season. I know this sounds really petty from the Missouri girl (especially since I have at least one reader from Florida), but seriously. I was done with all the rain last April. I think we got enough to last us for the year back in the spring. Now we just keep getting more? I'm tired of all the flooding. Plus, hurricane season is cutting into my sisters' and my birthday and Christmas bonuese from my dad. If he doesn't make money, neither do we...I know, I'm a horrible, petty, small person.
  • I ran 4.5 miles today in 40 minutes.
  • My knees and ankles hurt (see above), so I guess I'll have to swim tomorrow. I'm not sure when I'll get that in, though (see below).
  • I hate soccer season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caleb had a game yesterday, today and tomorrow. Now, he also has one next Saturday (when we're supposed to be going to Cape). I don't know why the athletic directors seem to think that my husband is at their beck and call to play soccer whenever they want. I do, however, know that this tournament was not originally scheduled to take place on a Saturday.
  • I'm having a great school year, myself. This may be because I haven't started any of my extra-curricular stuff just yet. I'm really enjoying my students (except for 4th hour this week), and I feel like I'm finally doing a good job at my job. I even look forward to going to work most days.
  • I wish I could say the same for my parenting skills as of late. Apparently the only thing my son seems to have learned at pre-school is how to perfect the fine art of talking back. Everything he's told to do gets a big, fat "NO". And, to make matters worse, his baby sister is learning his new skill. Grrrr....I must start reciting the serenity prayer on a daily basis.
  • I just finished my second assignment for my current graduate class. It is incredibly sad to me that thus far my graduate classwork has been less taxing, both in brainpower and actual man hours, than my freshman year of high school. Don't get me wrong--I'm not going to drop out and find a more difficult program to go through. It's just a bit sad.
  • I am exercising hard-core 4-5 times a week these days. According to the treadmill, I burn at least 500 calories every time I do a 4 mile run (quite often as of late), and yet somehow my butt is refusing to get smaller.
  • I cleaned my house and caught all my laundry up this weekend. It is now Tuesday. I've been in my home and conscious for approximately 7 of the last 48 hours, my children even less than that. And yet my house is already a disater area. Hmmm...
  • I almost fell asleep in my son's bed when I tucked him in this evening.
  • I probably should have just fallen asleep in his bed. But I had homework to do.
  • It's 11:45 and I'm blogging. Don't worry, once I finish this entry, I'm going straight to bed (after I brush and floss, of course--I can't have the dentist yell at me on Thursday when I must go get not one but two cavities filled). There will be no emailing (I already checked it), no babycentering (already checked it), and no facebooking (already checked it via my email). I will now go to slumberland so that tomorrow I can get up and do it all over again. I kind of feel like I'm starring in the movie Groundhog Day.

1) I hate hurricane season, too. Remember the whole beginning-of-the-school year fiasco?

2) I did NOT run 4.5 miles yesterday or any day for that matter. I did, however, work like a crazy-woman in the cardio room, then spent 30 minutes in the weight room with the buff-looking gym-rats that make me looke like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Mom.

3) Soccer season around here is pretty fun, but insanely HOT!! Of course, our soccer player is only 6.

4) Sometimes I wish I was in school so I could have some outlet with which to use my ever-softening brain.

5) I'm suffering from the "work your ass off, but it doesn't actually get smaller" disease, too! Maybe we should be in a study or something. Think they'd pay us?

6) It's 6:15 in the morning and I've already been up for an hour....couldn't sleep.

7) This comment has gotten excessively long, so now I'll close.

I want to join that study too as last summer I "ate less and exercised more" and did not lose any weight! Of course, right now, I am steadily gaining weight...hopefully I'll be able to get it off anyway.
I personally thought you were looking quite slim and toned in those pictures Tyson took, so maybe we should take the advice of not looking at the scale.
Keep on keeping on, sister.

I definitely noticed that you seemed slimmer than the last time I saw you. So I think that whatever you are doing is working!
