Earlier this week, my son's kindergarten class hosted "Muffins with Mom" to celebrate Mother's Day. Because I was taking students on a field trip to another elementary that day (to perform workshops on disability awareness for the younger set), I wasn't able to go. So I did what any self-respecting working mother would do--I did not ask off (like the other teacher-moms in my building, who also have children in my son's class), I sent a proxy.
Strike 1--I failed to show up at Muffins with Mom.
At said celebration, the moms were given a gift that the kids had made at school. The gift was a "cookbook". Trust me when I tell you that I'm playing fast and loose with the term cookbook, here... Anyhow, the kids were each asked to name their favorite dish made by their mom. They then also had to explain how said dish is made. I believe that the teacher must have written down exactly what she was told by these little stinkers, based on what I've read.
Here is what my son told her:
"Hot dogs--First, take them out of the fridge and put them in the microwave for about 10 minutes. Then put them on a bun with ketchup. Put the bun on a plate and add fruits and vegetables. Put the plate on the table with forks and spoons. Then you can eat them! (Finally!!!)"
And yes, you did read that correctly--that does say 10 minutes up there.
Strike 2--I've been caught by all the other good mommies feeding my kid hot dogs, on what would appear to be a quite regular basis.
At least I'm not little Michelle's mom:
"French Toast Stix--Buy them at Jack-In-The-Box, but eat them at home. Dip them in syrup."
So I guess I haven't completely struck out yet...
...at least not this week
Happy belated Mother's Day to all of my wonderful friends out there. May your lives be filled with properly cooked hot dogs, fruits, vegetables and French toast stix.

But notice that he said you add fruits and vegetables! That tells me it is a healthy meal!

Oh, we always make sure there's at least one fruit and one veggie with each meal (which makes us the laughing stock with my sisters). They spent the night at Sara's when I was at districts. She fed them pizza for lunch, and Connor called her on the carpet because she didn't give them any fruits or veggies. All she had was inedible lettuce and Pringles. So now my kids think that Pringles count as a veggie-but only at Aunt Sara's.
