Whining vs. Praying

It's 8:30 Monday morning and summer school has been canceled.  So we're making our own "school" right here at home.  The kids are (were) both sitting at the table, working in some of those store bought work books.  Well, Connor was still working and Riley was sitting on the couch whining about watching a moooovieeeeee.

Last night, I had a little heart to heart with my first born about the amount of time he was spending with his eyes glued to the television screen.  He understood (no, really he did!), and so today we are seriously going to limit the viewings of Phineas and Ferb and the playing of MarioKart on the Wii, in addition to other uses for the TV.

So, when Riley skipped out on tracing her letters to come hang on me and beg/whine to watch a mooooovieeeee.  I told her no.  I believe the conversation went something like this:

R:  Movie.  (Oh yeah, did I forget to mention the part where she just makes one word demands, rather than asking politely for things?  Can't tell you how much this pleases me, especially since we've been working on this pretty much since she could SPEAK.)

M: No, baby.  You're supposed to be working on writing your letters.

R:  (Whiny voice) Mooviee.

M:  (Attempt to ignore, since I've already answered her.)

R:  (Louder) Mooooovieeeeee!

M:  I believe I already answered your request.

And right in that moment, it hit me.  Is this what it's like when I pray?  I ask God for something,  and he says (but I can't or I refuse to hear Him due to my whining/requesting), "I believe I already answered your request.

I guess I really should stop asking Him to allow me to win the lottery.
