So I don't really know if zen is something that you are or have, but this has been my mantra for the past few days.
Yes, we have virtually missed the entire week of rehearsals the week prior to "hell week". Yes, we have yet to run the show in it's entirety from first scene to the last. Yes, the scenery isn't quite finished. And, yes, we do not have all of our props just yet.
Yesterday, the local paper published a 2 page spread about our show with tons of photos. I took more requests for tickets today (just one day) than I previously have for another show. People are actually coming to see this show that is so ill-prepared!!
But, I am not stressed.
I am zen.
I am not stressed because the kids came to rehearsal today with their heads firmly screwed on. They were ready to dive in. They know we have a difficult week ahead of us and that it will seem relentless. But they are eager and they are going to make it fun. The lines have finally come together (for the most part), the scenery will be wrapped up either tomorrow or Sunday. The program just needs a little more attention from me before I pass it off to the wonderful stage dad who has handled so much of this production. I have an awesome student teacher who has also dived (dove?) on in to help with anything and everything. My assistant directors are ever-helpful and ever-cheerful.
By all rights I should be more stressed and scared about this production than I ever have been before. But I know we're going to get there despite Mother Nature's attempts to bring us down. We will show her and Winter Storm '09!!! With God as our witness, we shall never go hungry again! (No, seriously, several of the stage parents keep bringing all kinds of amazing food to feed us during these marathon rehearsals...)
All is good, and this show will only happen because of team work at its best.
I'll keep you posted next week!!

"It's a mystery" as they say in "Shakespeare in Love"...but it sounds like you have a great crew. When Bob did a Wizard of Oz summer musical it was very well attended too...you'll give the people what they want. :)
I'm so happy that fate seems to have turned and is now shining on you. Good luck (can you tell the director good luck?) or break a leg or whatever. Can't wait to hear how it goes!!
DANG IT! Brooke beat me to it, but here's what I have to say:
HENSLOWE
Mr. Fennyman, let me explain about the theatre business
(they stop)
HENSLOWE (Cont'd)
The natural condition is one of unsurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.
Believe me, to be closed by the plague is a bagatelle in the ups and downs of owning a theatre.
FENNYMAN
So what do we do ?
HENSLOWE
Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
FENNYMAN
How ?
HENSLOWE
I don't know. It's a mystery.
HA!
