Stupid Snow Days

Earlier today I saw one of my facebook friends had become a fan of something called "I die a little bit when I don't see my school on the list of closings". As a kids, I totally felt this way.

As a teacher, I very much do not feel this way.

I'm Kim, and I HATE snow days.

Don't get me wrong, the occasional unexpected day off (that is not a sick day or a personal day) has its perks. But, in May, I'm going to have to pay the piper. Students are much less focused and I have much less patience for them in May than I do in February.

Plus, have I mentioned that Thursday (less than 24 hours from the time that I write this) is opening night for the musical that I'm directing? All this week we were supposed to run dress rehearsals. Everything was supposed to be show conditions--just as if we had an actual audience. So Sunday, we sort of had that, but with several slip ups--no biggie--that's what the rest of the week is for, right?

WRONG! Mother Nature hates Grease and wants to see it die. (I can't say that I blame her; it's not a great musical.) Monday, we skipped costumes, hair and makeup in an effort to get a full run of the show in before the really bad weather hit. Today's rehearsal got wiped out by the snow. Hopefully the administration will see fit to allow us to come in for a final dress rehearsal tomorrow afternoon. Keep your fingers crossed, or else I'm going to cry.

Either that, or I'm going to have to overdose on Prozac.

Good luck with the musical! I know you will be great regardless!

Oh, Kim. This just blows. I'm so sorry you have to deal with all this. I'm sure everything will work out, though. Somehow it always does. Good luck! Or, break a leg. Or, whatever you tell a stressed-out director!
