Getting There

My house feels about a zillion pounds lighter.

Inspired by my friend Brooke, and by our inability to fully use our garage due to the thousands of rubbermaid storage boxes lining the walls, we held our Super Blow-Out Garage Sale on Saturday (aka, the hottest day of 2008 thus far). We officially got rid of all our baby stuff. Now, this could be a problem. My mom and sister have a theory about garage sales and baby items: If you make money getting rid of your baby things, you will end up pregnant within the year. However, Caleb is quick to point out that we definitely did not profit, here, since all that stuff cost way more than we made in the garage sale. So I guess we're in the clear.

Not all of our baby stuff sold, so we donated the extra stuff to a church that helps poor moms-to-be. They came and picked up all the "left-overs" a little while ago. That was very sad for both Caleb and me. It was really hard for me to watch the baby bedding that we picked out for Connor leave our house. That was the first baby purchase that when I was pregnant. I know I'll always have the memory of going to Babies R Us and finding the "perfect" bedding set on clearance. And I know that by keeping it, we'd just be using up valuable storage space (which is a hot commodity in our little house). But, it just makes me so sad.

On a happier note, I've been spending the day trying to get my house back in order. All the stuff that didn't get cleaned up properly last week since I was too busy preparing for the garage sale is finally getting cleaned up and put away. Caleb re-organized the garage, and I did the same thing in our laundry room and a closet. Slowly but surely, our house is getting an organizational overhaul. Oh, the people at TLC and HGTV would be so proud! Over the course of the next week or so, I hope to have my house completely in order again, and it had better stay that way through the coming school year. Those people who keep coming in and messing up my house had better behave!

That is a very satisfying feeling, isn't it? Getting everything more organized always makes me feel like I've got my life more in order as well. Of course, I'm amazed when I get rid of so much stuff... how much stuff I still have left! Ah, well.

Oh, Kimmie -- Don't make me think about getting rid of my baby stuff quite yet. I can't do it! I WON'T do it!! You can't make me!

Wow, all the talk about the crazies inspired you to have a garage sale yourself? You really *are* my friend...we just can't resist a good story...and a good purge. :)
