My Baby's a Pre-Schooler!!

Today was Connor's first day of pre-school/day care. On Friday we went to visit and let him meet his teacher, Miss Lisa. (Miss Lisa's daughter is one of Caleb's students, so that's a nice connection.) After we visited the school, we ran to the store and bought a Lightning McQueen blanket and pillow case for his cot. He's been talking about going to school all weekend long, and he was quite excited about it this morning.

He learned about picnics today, and on Wednesday he gets to bring his bear (aka "This Guy"--no kidding, that's what he named the bear) for a bear picnic. I was hoping that I could have all my work finished so that the kids and I can stay home for one last summer day, but I was informed that he "doesn't want to stay home on Wednesday!"

Here are some photos from the big boy's first day:

When I got there to pick him up, he tripped on a railroad tie and fell hard-core onto the pavement on his way to me. While he was screaming into my left ear, tears streaming down his face (he was fine, though), the girl that was out on the playground with him handed me his very first accident report. His first day, and already an injury. That makes a mom feel GREAT!

But he says he had a great day. He was "awesome", or at least that's what he says Miss Lisa told him.

His baby sister, on the other hand, had a bit of a rough morning. As she and I walked up the steps to Miss Nan's house, she stopped, turned back toward the car and said, "I get Connor." I explained to her (again) that he wasn't going to Miss Nan's, and that he had school. When I dropped her off, she cried. I think she got over it quickly, though.

This afternoon, when they were reunited, they were two happy kiddos. That is, until Riley took a nose-dive off the ladder to their club house in the back yard. I was walking over to her to take the toy out of her hand so that she wouldn't fall (the irony is not lost on me), but I was about 3 seconds too late. She bit it (literally). Blood coming out of her mouth and going everywhere. She also hit her head somewhere, but we can't seem to find any goose eggs. We deliberated on whether a trip to the ER (and $100 copay) was necessary. After exams from me, Caleb, two soccer moms (picking their boys up from practice) and our friend (a former nurse), we decided no to go to the hospital. Which is good, because I think we've met our quota of trips to Cardinal Glennon over the course of the past 2 years.

Oh, my day, you ask? My day went well. My classroom is completely back together again and I got one of my 3 syllabi (syllabuses?) typed up and copied. Hopefully I can get the other two taken care of tomorrow and get stuff ready for the first week, and I'll be all set. Don't misunderstand--I'd still much rather stay home with my kiddos, but since I must go to school, I guess I should prepare for it.

I'm so glad Connor had a good first day! And yes, Mommy.... You should be very glad he wants to go back on Wednesday even if it breaks your heart just a little.

Glad to hear that Miss Riley is OK. Nothin' worse than a mouth-bleeder! Yick... **shudder**
