The Perfect Day

This morning I woke up on my own accord--no alarm clock, no children. I just woke up all on my own. That is the first sign that the day would be a good one.

Since it was only 7 a.m. when I woke up, I got out of bed, got dressed in some running clothes and shoes and I headed out to exercise. It's August 16th in the midwest, and the temp was 69 degrees. So I went to the track to run--outside. The fact that I was able to do this was the second sign that today would be a good one.

I was able to run my entire 5K (3.1 miles for any of you non-runners out there). This has been my goal for several months now--to be able to run the entire thing, no walking. I've been doing this consistently for about a week now. So, I guess I'm there. (Now my new goal is to run it outside, which is much harder than on a treadmill. So I have a bit of work to do there. My race is in 3 weeks. I think I can do it.) The third sign of a good day.

After exercising and lifting my weights, I came home to two children who had been fed breakfast and who were dressed for our morning outing. Daddy had also made them pick up the toys in the basement, their bedrooms and the living room--trust me, there were a lot of toys to be picked up. Fourth sign of a good day.

Then we went to the coolest birthday party ever. (Thanks for being born and having a cool train party Gabe!) The kids had a blast! We could barely get them out of the door, but it was close to lunch time, and we had to leave before the impending meltdown (even on good days, 4 & 2-year olds still have melt downs, don't kid yourselves). Awesome party--Fifth sign of a good day.

Then we headed to the mall and the food court. A trip to Sonic for the kids and Sbarro's for Mommy (Mmmmmm....Sbarro's). Sixth sign of a good day.

After lunch, Daddy took the kids to the play area to expend some energy while Mommy just spent money. I got to have a bit of a back-to-school shopping spree (I guess back-to-school isn't all bad). I got some fall sweaters, a new dress (It's sooo cute! I think I'm gonna wear it for picture day!), a couple of new shirts (one of which is a pretty dress shirt for $5!), and some new bras (one of which claims to reduce that fat roll on your back--we'll see...). Seventh sign of a good day.

We came home for nap, we've done lots of playing, we have left-overs awaiting us in the fridge and now all the windows are open (one of my very favorite things ever! And, yes Amy P, the fans are in the windows too). Tonight we'll be watching Michael Phelps win his 8th gold in Beijing (hopefully! PS--did ya see him pull out last night's race? AMAZING!!!!!!!), as well as some other olympic events.

All in all a fairly uneventful, but fulfilling day (especially for the birthday boy and for my closet!). These are the best days, aren't they? Today was pretty much the perfect day.

Awww, I'm so glad we could contribute to TPD. :)

Thx for the cupcake tree & the black decorator's icing (I mean train track).

Go Phelps (& window fans!!)!

Just reading about your perfect day made me smile! :) Way to go on the 5K! That's going to be a goal for me post-baby. Last summer, I started running again and got up to 2 miles outside. (I always walked the last half mile though) so I'll have some work ahead of me.

You're awesome with your running, Kimmie!! Fortunately for me, I haven't had any bears chasing me recently and, therefore, have had no need to run 5k!! :)

I'm so jealous of your open windows. It's hotter than snot down here! Glad you had such a perfect day. Gotta really appreciate those when they come along.
